The DAF-Pro Bono Charitable Training Project (hereinafter ‘The DAF-Pro Bono Training Project’) is established by the DAF Family Legacy Office with the DAF Charity as the donor. The DAF-Pro Bono Training Project targets professionals, with relevant courses, taking DAF and Pro Bono as the main training content, with the purpose to promote professionals to provide Pro Bono services and advocate the building of accountability through professionalism and help them to fulfill social responsibilities by providing relevant knowledge required for the DAF implementation.
(1) Core Concepts of DAF-Pro Bono Training Project
① Servicing the DAF Products
The DAF is a convenient and effective charitable tool that provides donors with both an account-based, streamlined, and a systemized DAF Account Service System (‘charitable products’) and services in donations, investments, contributions, and so on. During the process of the DAF charitable tool taking root in China, the DAF goes from products to services, participants in the DAF Ecosystem learn from each other and improve their understanding, and professionals are empowered to provide Pro Bono services. It is also a process of promoting the donor's strategic charity on the basis of family legacy.
② Productizing Pro Bono Services
‘Pro Bono services’ essentially refers to ‘services’ that are rendered voluntarily and free of charge by professionals for charitable purposes. The DAF Ecosystem provides professionals with relevant training courses, advocates and guides them to provide different types of Pro Bono under different circumstances, in different situations, and to different targets, thus forming different Pro Bono scenarios (‘service products’) and promoting professionals to provide more specific and practical Pro Bono services under the structure of the DAF ecosystem.
Therefore, the DAF-Pro Bono Training Project organically integrates the Donor Advice Fund (DAF) and Pro Bono services, which are mutually reinforcing, complementary, and empowering.
(2) Strategic Objectives of the DAF-Pro Bono Training Project
① Promoting the Implementation of the DAF in China with Expertise
The implementation of the DAF and the construction of the DAF Ecosystem needs support from professionals. In order to meet the needs of the DAF’s localized practice and infrastructure construction of the DAF ecosystem, the DAF-Pro Bono Training Project advocates and popularizes relevant principles of Pro Bono to professionals by providing specialist training, and encourages them to utilize their expertise to provide Pro Bono under the DAF Ecosystem, help professionals to improve their public servicing skills, so as to promote the construction of public welfare undertakings in the DAF Ecosystem with professional power and help the DAF's hands-on practice in China.
② Training Professionals for Strategic Philanthropy Planning
DAF is one of the most significant tools to plan for strategic philanthropy. The DAF-Pro Bono Training Project aims to empower professional volunteers, so as to promote the construction of professionals’ strategic philanthropy planning capabilities, train and reserve talents for strategic philanthropy, to gather professionals' power to advocate philanthropy, to guide commercial capital into fields of impact investment and social finance, and to achieve sustainable, competitive and standardized public welfare.
(3) Guiding Principles of the DAF Pro-Bono Training Project
① Integrating Public Welfare into Training Courses
The Training Project focuses on the theme and content of the course for the public good, not only providing the participants with rich theoretical knowledge of the public good, but also developing and designing the practical content of the course for the public good, based on the cultivation of the practical ability of the participants, making the course content more grounded and operational.
② Invitation System of the Training Project
For the purposes of establishing a credible training platform and system, adapting the processes of the Training Project, achieving its purposes efficiently, enhancing the quality of the training, and building up a training brand, the Training Project will adopt a strict invitation system for teachers. The DAF Office will invite teachers with professional competence and high credibility to provide training courses, so as to reflect the professionalism and guidance of the overall curriculum.
③ Encouraging Resource Sharing
The Training Project will explore a to-business cooperative model with one or more potential strategic cooperation institutions. The resources shared on the training platform will empower professionals in those institutions by helping institutions conduct charitable training for their professionals and encouraging them to provide mission-based high-end charitable services for their clients.
④ Socializing the Training Certification
For the purposes of consolidating the training outcomes and promoting the value transformation of the professionals’ Pro Bono services, Course-closing Practices reports and certificates of completion obtained by learners participating in the Training Project can be identified as corresponding credits in the Credit Bank. With the approval of project partners, such credits can be redeemed for subsequent value-added services or opportunities to participate in relevant charitable activities. The Pro Bono hours provided by learners can also be redeemed for corresponding privileges in the Time Bank.
⑤ Cooperating on Enrollment of Training Project
For the purposes of integrating and associating with excellent public welfare resources, and encouraging other non-profit organizations to participate in and jointly promote the DAF-Pro Bono Training Project, the DAF Office can cooperate with one or more domestic or overseas non-profit organizations for each specific DAF-Pro Bono Training Project, under the leadership and coordination of the DAF Office, so as to empower non-profit organizations by jointly carrying out activities such as enrollment of fee-paying learners and training.
